Kindergarten students did a fine job during their demonstration classes last week. Parents were invited to explore not only their classroom work, but also what's up in music classes. Singing, dancing, listening and speaking activities were highlighted and left all in attendance smiling as they left. There's lots to learn in kindergarten and these children will be ready for first grade.
First graders are busy, busy, busy!! Our nursery rhyme program is coming together nicely. While the children know the rhymes and the activities, putting it together to make it suitable for a presentation is another thing. The children are learning to keep track of where they are in songs - tracking musical form. This way they learn "first time we speak, second time we sing" and so on. Musicians' minds think in many different directions - we have to be fluid and flexible thinkers. The children are also learning about focus and performing skills that are essential to everyone in the audience having the best experience. Self-control is a vital part of performing. It would be great if you could also speak to your child about self-control and how adults work on this skill, too! I am very eager for all of you to experience what these children can do when they work together. See you on the 28th!
